The Book of Shaugh Parish

Welcome one and all. If you have never heard of, or visited the Shaugh area here's your chance to find out about a Parish on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. Why you may ask? The truth of the matter is that I'm a sentimental old softie who loves the area and because I've been given lots of old photographs of the district I decided to create this site so others could share my pleasure. In any case it was a choice between creating this website or spending my days washing, ironing, doing the housework, painting the fence or other incredibly exciting tasks like that. As you can imagine it was a difficult decision to make , but I chose the most important task in my opinion, although the wife might not agree.

However enough of the waffle.

These pages contain photographs and videos of the Shaugh Bridge/Shaugh Prior area where I lived between the ages of 4 and 15years of age. This was between 1949 and 1961. The area is on the south west slopes of Dartmoor, between 8 and 12 miles from Plymouth, depending where you are,  and located between the villages of Bickleigh and Wotter.

I have split the web pages into 4 categories.

Shaugh Prior

Shaugh Bridge

The Dewerstone

Shaugh Station

Lee Moor

Wotter

If you are not interested in reading about the history

you can view all the pictures and videos here!

On each page I have provided links to other pages which may be of interest to the viewer. None of the links to other pages are in any way connected to me.

To start you off have a look at the video below. It is a modern day tour of the Shaugh area that I made to go along with my book,  "Memories of Childhood" At present there are no more copies of this book available
